Over on Twitter, Spec Ops: The Line Lead Writer Walt Williams has announced that after nine years, not only is he leaving 2K Games, but AAA game development entirely to “try something new.”
After 9 years of working at 2K Games, I’m sad to announce that today is my last day.

I’m not leaving games, but I am leaving AAA. Not b/c I don’t love it — I totally do. I just want to try something new.

Williams’ most recent work is the Turtle Rock multiplayer shooter, Evolve, and Firaxis Games’ turn-based strategy game, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth.
This isn’t the first time this year that a video game developer has left AAA game development. Just this July, PayDay 2 Director and Battlefield: Bad Company, BF3 developer, David Goldfarb also announced that he’s abandoning AAA projects to form his own studio.
