Report: PSP Systems to Lose PSN Store Support in the Coming Days (Update)

Update:

Sony has issued an official statement to us which you can read below.

As of September 15, 2014, we closed the PlayStation®Store for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) in European and PAL regions. PSP users will still be able to purchase PSP content from the Sony Entertainment Network Online Store as well as redownload content they purchased in the past from the download list on their PSP systems.”

Original Story:

According to a translation by the NeoGAF user oldmario, Sony has sent out an official email explaining that support for the PlayStation Store will be removed from the original PSP on September 15.

Unfortunately, Sony has said that the removal of support will come via a server shutdown, rather than a firmware release, making it impossible to avoid.

For PSP Go owners, this makes playing games a little difficult, as the system does not have UMD functionality. Users will have to either download PSP games onto their PS3 consoles and then transfer them using a USB cable, or users can log into the SEN store and download their games there.

The server shutdown will NOT impact PS Vita systems, Sony has said.

Does the removal of PSN support for PSP systems affect you in any way? Let us know in the comments. And as always, stay tuned to PlayStation Lifestyle for any updates.
