While Call of Duty sells a truckload every year, the numbers haven’t been climbing up, which is understandable as some people might be tired from buying an iteration of the franchise every year.
Well, according to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, this year’s Call of Duty game, Advanced Warfare, will sell considerably lower compared to last year’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. Bhatia estimates that Advanced Warfare will ship 15 percent fewer units in the fourth quarter of 2014, which translates to 17 million instead of 20 million.
Additionally, Bhatia thinks that consumer indecision about upgrading to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 may be factors working against cross-gen games like Advanced Warfare. However, Bhatia also surmises that there is a chance that Advanced Warfare could fare better due to lack of shooter competition with Battlefield Hardline being pushed back to an early 2015 release.
Even if Bhatia’s words ring true, it’s far from being considered a commercial failure. And let’s be honest here, don’t people say this every year? Like it or not, another Call of Duty game will sell a ton of copies. Good thing Advanced Warfare seems to be an improvement to the series — at least according to the time we had with it.
Do you think Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will sell less than Ghosts? Or will everyone in your friend’s list be playing it again come release day same as before?
