Even though Far Cry 4‘s map will the same size as the map in Far Cry 3, it will take more time to explore.
According to an IGN interview with Far Cry 4‘s senior level designer Vincent Ouellette, the game’s map will be denser than the map in Far Cry 3, offering more things for players to do and ultimately taking them longer to explore the map.
The main world is roughly the same size as Far Cry 3 but it’s a lot more dense in terms of how many activities, points of interest and civilians there are,” he said. “On top of that we also have the arena, which you can play indefinitely, and we got the Himalaya missions on top of the mountains, as well as Shangri-La which lets you explore the myths and legends of the beliefs held by the people in Kyrat. So taken all together, the general offering is much bigger.
Ouellette goes on to say that there will be a whole lot of story mission and side missions embedded in the map, as well as numerous plants and animals, including “elephants, rhinos, honey badgers, eagles and stuff.” He notes that the game world is “treated as a main character,” and it is encouraged that players stick around and explore it.
Far Cry 4 comes out on November 18 for both the PlayStation 4 and the PS3. What do you think of the map size? Did you like how big it was in Far Cry 3?
