Welcome to PlayStation LifeStyle’s Trophy guide for Shadow of Mordor! SoM has 52 trophies to be collected and none of them are too particularly challenging. Some Trophies and missions tied to Trophies will require you to progress through the story to unlock certain abilities before you can attempt to earn them.
In addition to pointing those out in the guide, the game will also tell you what needs to be unlocked in order to gain access to locked missions. Also, the game is split into two different maps. So, don’t worry if you clear the first map and still have side mission trophies to be completed. The second map will become available as you progress through the main story. The yellow icons on the map are the main story missions. There is also a free roam feature after you’ve completed the main campaign. One last thing, the Warchief related Trophies are not missable as they are constantly replaced by other Uruk when killed.
Spoiler Alert: There are spoilers within the guide. If you’re trying to avoid spoilers, it’s recommended that you complete the game before reading any further. If you haven’t picked it up yet, make sure you check out our review.

Burning Vengeance – Bronze
– Perform an Execution on a flaming Berserker.
The Berserkers are the big Uruk that carry two axes. They can be found around any of the strongholds on the map. You need light one on fire and use the Triangle + O finisher while they are on fire. You can catch them on fire by pushing them into a camp fire or by using the Fire Arrows ability if you have it unlocked. You’ll need to be very quick as they will only burn for a few seconds.
And it Burns, Burns, Burns – Bronze
– Use the Detonate ability to burn 50 Uruks.
The Detonate ability is purchased in “Abilities” page of the “Upgrades” menu with “Ability Points”. Simply shoot camp fires and or barrels with an arrow to cause them to explode with Uruks near by.
Iron of Death – Bronze
– Issue a Death Threat, and then successfully kill the target.
Issuing Death Threats is an ability that you have to unlock. It’s also pretty far down in the Abilities skill tree. Once you have it unlocked, sneak up on a Uruk or get in a fight with one. Press and hold R1, then press X to “Dominate” them. After that, press Square to issue a death threat. Pick any of the Uruk from Sauron’s Army to place the death threat on. Once it’s placed, track down and kill the Uruk that you put the death threat on.
A New Master – Bronze
– Brand a Captain in combat.
Branding enemies wont become available until late into the story missions. First you’ll need to get into a fight with a Captain. Then, you’ll have to have a Charged Hit Streak. Once you have that, press X+O near the Captain to brand him. You’ll need to drain the Captains’s health bar until he is almost dead before you can brand him. Shortly after learning the Branding ability, there will be a story mission that requires you to Brand a Captain. The mission is a good place to earn this trophy as the Captain isn’t particularly hard to fight.
No Power in Numbers – Bronze
– Help a Captain survive a Recruitment Power Struggle, and then kill him and all his new recruits.
You’ll need to have unlocked the Brand ability before you can attempt this trophy. First you will need to fight and Brand a Captain. You can use the Combat Drain or Dominate him by holding R1 when his health is low enough. After he’s Branded, either escape the battle or send him off to murder another Captain. Now you’ll have to wait for your Branded Chief to get into a Recruitment Power Struggle (it’ll be a blue icon on the map). If he isn’t in a Recruitment Struggle, just fast forward time at a Forge Tower until he’s in one.
Once he is in the Recruitment Struggle, go to the event. Kill the enemies with the yellow dots over their heads until your Captain has won the Struggle. After he’s won, simply kill him and all of the Uruk he recruited. They will be blue triangles on the radar.
Black Celebration – Bronze
– Poison a Captain at his own Feast.
You will gain access to the Poison ability once you complete “The Outcasts” first story mission. Feasts can be found on the map, they are marked by the red icons. Infiltrate a feast stealthily and poison the drum of the Uruk’s drink. Press L1 to spot the drums at the camp and R1 when you are near it to poison it. If you are seen and combat is initiated, the captain will not drink from the poisoned drum.
Stinking Rebels – Bronze
– Brand five Bodyguards of a Warchief, turning them against him in combat.
There are a couple of steps that need to be taken for this Trophy. To find out what Uruk is the bodyguard to what Warchief, select a Warchief from Sauron’s Army page and lines will be drawn from the Warchief to his bodyguards.
1. Fight and Brand a Warchief’s bodyguards before confronting the Warchief. This can be done by attacking the bodyguards individually.
2. Brand five Captains, in the Dominate menu select Command. Command the Captain to become a bodyguard of the Warchief you’ve selected. That is done by highlighting the Warchief and selecting “Initiate”. You’ll need to get five bodyguards on one Warchief at the same time.
3. Help the Branded Captains succeed in the initiation missions. They will be marked on the map with blue icons.
4. Once you have five bodyguards on one Warchief, confront the Warchief. As soon as he shows up with his Branded bodyguards, press Up on the D-Pad.
A Graug’s Heel – Bronze
– Capitalize on a Warchief’s Fear.
First, you’ll have to fight and interrogate a Captain, get intel about any of the Warchiefs. Once you have the intel, select the Warchief you choose, press X and then R2 to view information about him. This will tell you the strengths, weaknesses and fears of the Warchief. Next, go challenge the Warchief you selected to a fight. If he is afraid of Caragors, release Caragors out of their cages or shoot down bait to attract them to him. If he is afraid of Morgai, shoot down a Morgai nest near him. The Warchief will become frightened when confronted with any of his fears and run away. You need to chase him down and kill him while he is running away scared in order for the trophy to pop.
Divide and Conquer – Bronze
– Eliminate the bodyguards of two Warchiefs, then draw them out and kill them.
The easiest way to earn this Trophy is to Brand all of the bodyguards and two Warchiefs. Once the Warchiefs are Branded, go to their respective missions (blue icons on the map) and kill the bodyguards before killing the Warchief. Do this to two Warchiefs and the Trophy will pop. It’s best to have them all Branded because they won’t fight back as you attack them.
Lord and Master – Bronze
– Brand all five Warchiefs.
This Trophy is basically story related. There will be a main mission late in the story that will require you to track down all five Warchiefs and Brand them.
Power Vacuum – Bronze
– Kill all five Warchiefs before an Uruk take their place.
First, gain intel on all five of the Warchiefs to reveal their locations before fighting any of them. Once all five have been revealed, go and fight them. When you kill a Warchief, Immediately go on to the next one. Try not fight any Captains while you’re doing this. If you are killed by a Captain and there is a vacant Warchief spot, there is a chance he will rank up and take the vacant spot.
Rise and Fall – Bronze
– After an Uruk kills you to become a Captain, help him become a Warchief, then Kill him.
First, you’ll need to get killed by a Captain. Next, fight him again and brand him. command him to attack a Warchief and make sure you help him defeat the Warchief. When he becomes Warchief, initiate his mission (a blue icon on the map) and kill him.
The Spirit of Mordor – Bronze
– Start a Riot by commanding a Warchief to attack another Warchief.
The Branding ability will be needed in order to unlock this Trophy. Gather intel on a Warchief to reveal his location. Next, challenge the Warchief to a fight and brand him. During the process of branding him, you’ll be given a few options. Press Triangle to use the Command option. Now, just select a different Warchief in the Sauron Army page and select the option “Riot.” The Trophy will pop as soon as you select Riot.
The White Rider – Bronze
– Liberate 30 slaves in 180 seconds while riding a caragor.
There’s really not much to say about this one. Get on a Caragor and run around areas that have a lot of slaves. Kill an Uruk that is near the slaves to liberate them. Below in the picture are two areas that have groups of slaves somewhat near each other.
Unleashed – Bronze
– Free five caragors from cages.
You will come across camps of Uruk in free roam and in the story that have Caragors in cages. Shoot the door of the cage with an arrow to release a Caragor.
