Tetsuya Nomura, the director of Kingdom Hearts III, revealed that Square Enix has dropped the Luminous engine in favor of using Unreal Engine 4.
The switch stems from problems that Square Enix was having with the Luminous engine. Since the switch, however, things have been going fairly smoothly, Nomura said in a recent interview with Famitsu.
The [development] is going steadily and according to the schedule. Due to having switched to Unreal Engine 4 for various reasons, we’re having trouble on some parts as far as rendering goes, but with help from the folks at Epic Games, progress is going safely.
Hopefully, the game’s development will continue going smoothly, despite the change. Kingdom Hearts III will be coming out at an undisclosed date for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
