Capcom Unlikely to Make Sequels to Games That Sell Below Two Million Copies

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Capcom Producer Yoshinori Ono explained that the company is unlikely to make sequels to games that sell less than two million copies

Ono explained that a game that sells less than two million copies simply means that the team was not “capable enough,” and that their time would be better spent working on a brand new title rather than a sequel.

For instance, if a game doesn’t sell over 2 million copies, then we’d have to put the brakes on any plans for a sequel. All that means is that we weren’t capable enough. And all we can do after that is to reflect on the experience, take what we can learn from it, and try to apply those lessons on some other title.

As of July 2014, numerous Capcom games have not yet hit two million copies, including Dragon’s Dogma, Dead Rising 3, and DmC: Devil May Cry. Do you think Capcom will really not make any sequels to these games? Let us know in the comments.
