According to recent analysis done by Cowen and Company, Call of Duty will continue its sales decline this year with Advanced Warfare.
After analyzing pre-order sales data, the firm believes that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will sell around 40 percent less than Ghosts, and a whopping 70 percent less than the 2012 title Black Ops 2. Cowen & Co. noted that it believes that the Call of Duty franchise has moved past its best days.
Advanced Warfare is now pacing almost 40 per cent behind last year’s Ghosts (vs. 50 per cent last week) and almost 70 per cent behind 2012’s Black Ops 2 (vs. 80 per cent last week). We continue to believe CoD will be down meaningfully vs. last year. With the franchise facing two consecutive significant year on year declines in sales, we think it is prudent to assume it has peaked.
Despite Advanced Warfare expected to sell less than previous CoD titles, Cowen & Co. believe that it will still outsell Destiny, which sold over $500 million worth of copies in its first day. This puts into perspective just how many play CoD, even if those numbers are declining.
