Capcom, Sony & Microsoft Talk Street Fighter V Exclusivity on PS4/PC

At PlayStation Experience, Capcom and Sony announced that Street Fighter V would be a console exclusive on PlayStation 4, with PC cross-platform play included as well.

To give us a little more information about the decision for Street Fighter V to go PS4 console-exclusive, Capcom Associate Director of Brand Marketing and eSports Matt Dahlgren issued this statement:

Throughout all of our discussions with Sony Computer Entertainment, it is clear that we share a mutual belief that the fighting genre has a huge opportunity for growth. The announcement today is just the first step, of many, in creating the next generation Street Fighter experience our fans have been asking for.

Adam Boyes, Sony Computer Entertainment America’s VP of Publisher and Developer Relations, added:

Partnering with Capcom to deliver one of the most popular video game franchises of all time as a console exclusive to our PlayStation family is a huge undertaking and an honor we take incredibly seriously. We can’t wait to show Street Fighter and PlayStation fans what we have in store for them.

Microsoft also weighed in on the fact that Street Fighter V is only going to be available on PS4/PC, with Xbox Boss Phil Spencer saying, “Business deals happen. We won’t do all of them. When we have a 1st party franchise in a genre I’d rather invest in ours.” Of course, Spencer is talking about the Xbox One-exclusive Killer Instinct when referring to other games in the fighting genre.

Spencer then said, “I’d love it if Xbox fans could play all the games, but business just makes some deals happen. It’s all part of competition.”

While Capcom noted that Street Fighter V is “still early in development,” they did say more details, including a release window, “will be coming soon.”

You’ll be able to watch the first live gameplay match of Street Fighter V at the Capcom Cup on Saturday, December 13.

If you missed it, Ultra Street Fighter IV was also announced for PlayStation 4, though no release date was given:
