Tired of shooters? Well, if sales figures are to be believed, it seems most aren’t. Based on votes among staff, the shooter category was one of the hardest when it came to declaring a winner; to the point that it boiled down to a “sudden death.”
Role-playing at its finest? Yes indeed! The best RPG of 2014 is next.
Best Shooter
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Publisher : Activision
Developer : Sledgehammer Games
"Ultimately, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is one of the best iterations in the franchise, as it has found a way to reinvigorate its gameplay mechanics without deviating away from what has kept the series so strong over the years. Very little of the game feels lacking, as even though the story is standard fare for most military shooters, its presentation takes it quite far."

Far Cry 4
Publisher : Ubisoft
Developer : Ubisoft
"The major difference here is the Himalayan setting, which looks absolutely stunning and is a joy to explore using the Far Cry mechanics. The dearth of motivational integrity in the narrative aside, Far Cry 4 is a game that will have players losing hours of their lives as they get lost in Kyrat, either by themselves or with a friend."

Wolfenstein: The New Order
Publisher : Bethesda Softworks
Developer : MachineGames
"Limited graphical and audio faults aside, altogether, Wolfenstein; The New Order is a very good game — a true gem among shooters in a sickening sea of shooters. A story that captures interest and characters that hold it until the end, gameplay that falls somewhere between Killzone, Call of Duty, and Duke Nukem, and a complete focus on the single player experience create a roughly 10 hour campaign full of Nazi slaying goodness. And let’s be honest, that’s what we all really want to do in first-person shooters, right?"

Destiny
Publisher : Activision
Developer : Bungie
"While it is not the story, there is a certain pull to Destiny that keeps me coming back for more. Bungie have created something special that I think we will see continue to bloom in their persistent support of the game. Destiny is organic in presentation and execution, and like going on a hike on your favorite trail, is never quite the same each time you play. I am still having a ton of fun in this world and can see myself getting many more hours of fun in the weeks and months to come."

And the Winner is...
Destiny
Bungie, famed for legendary shooter Halo , have once again crafted an awesome shooter experience that doesn't just focus on the shooting, but integrates incredible social mechanics as well. The gameplay is well balanced and fun, and has many gamers playing for hundreds of hours in just the first three months of release alone. For all this and more, Destiny is our shooter of the year.
