Sohei Niikawa, the president of Nippon Ichi Software, recently explained in an interview with Dengeki PlayStation magazine that a PlayStation Vita version of Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance will not be possible, meaning that the strategy title will be a PS4-exclusive.
…I know that there are many consumers who would like this. However, we are developing the game with PlayStation 4 specs, so to be honest, it’s impossible to port the game to the PlayStation Vita. Porting the game without erasing a lot of features and cutting down the amount of assets would be very difficult, and of course, we do not wish to do that. I think there are people waiting for a “Return” version with all of the contents [and DLC] included, but I’m sorry, that will not happen this time. (laughs) If we were to port the game to a portable system, fans would probably have to wait for the next portable system after the Vita, but I haven’t heard anything about this [system], so that would be far in the future. Disgaea 5 will have Remote Play. Do not wait for a PS Vita port, and please, play the PlayStation 4 version.
Niikawa went on to explain that Disgaea 5 will not be heading to the PS3 because he wanted to help the PS4 grow in Japan. By not publishing the popular title on the PS3, the team thinks that PS4 sales will increase in Japan. Whether or not this will actually happen remains to be seen, but Niikawa did say that Nippon Ichi Software is currently working on two other PS4 titles at this time.
It was also mentioned that curry will be a major theme in Disgaea 5. Not only will it be Usaria’s favorite food, but it will also be a large part of the story. Of course, a lot of other new things have been added into this latest title besides curry, including new monsters and new classes.
What do you think of Disgaea 5 being a PS4-exclusive? And what do you think of curry being a major theme?
