Sony recently announced that as of January 4, 2015, a whopping 18.5 million PlayStation 4 units have been sold worldwide, with the recent holiday season accounting for around 4.1 million of them. Not bad, considering the console has only been out for a little over a year.
On top of that, Sony also released the number of PS4 games that have been sold worldwide — 81.8 million. Out of those, around 17.8 million were sold during the holiday season. The numbers take into account both digital and physical games.
Sony also announced that around 10.9 million PlayStation owners are PS Plus subscribers. The service allows PS4 users to play games online and gives PS4, PS3, and PS Vita owners a certain number of free games every month. Speaking of free games — remember to pick up December’s free PS Plus games now, because the PS Store updates on the 6th, giving users another batch of free products.
What do you think of all the sales numbers? Are they what you expected?
