As part of a Life in Japan feature by Polygon, Tekken Director Katsuhiro Harada was asked about all of his current projects right now, which includes Tekken 7, Pokken Tournament, Summer Lesson, Time Crisis 5, and “a few games that aren’t announced.”
There’s also one other title – the long in development Tekken x Street Fighter. “It’s very difficult to talk about,” Harada said. “Obviously, I had originally planned to release it much earlier than we’re currently looking at.”
The reason Tekken x Street Fighter has been delayed so much is due to Bandai Namco seeing the market become over-saturated with other fighting games. To avoid confusion amongst players, Harada says the company wanted to put some breathing room between it and other titles, such as Street Fighter x Tekken.
At the moment, roughly 40 people are working on the game (some of those people are also working on Tekken 7), but he admits that “Tekken 7 will be our big thing for the next while.”
Harada was unable to talk about a time frame for Tekken x Street Fighter, instead saying he wants to surprise people when it’s re-introduced.
