EA Sports UFC Update Adds New Fighters, to Be the “Last Major Update”

EA Sports has announced that the latest free content update (#7) for EA Sports UFC adds four new fighters to the roster, namely, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, Eddie Alvarez, Holly Holm and Rafael Dos Anjos. “This will mark the last major update for the game as we’ll now begin shifting focus towards the future,” the developer wrote. Complete details of the newest additions are as follows:

Anthony Johnson – Light Heavyweight Division

One of the most feared fighters in the UFC’s Light Heavyweight division, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson possesses a dangerous blend of power and speed that marks a tough challenge for any opponent in his path. Currently riding an 8-fight win streak, Rumble has posted knockouts in 12 of his 18 career victories, most recently KOing Antonio Nogueira in spectacular fashion, earning himself a Performance of the Night bonus in the process. After spending a significant portion of his career – and his first stint in the UFC – fighting as a welterweight, Rumble has also competed in the middleweight and heavyweight divisions before finally finding his home at 205lbs where he currently remains undefeated. Rumble will face one of his biggest tests in the UFC to date, when he squares off against the division’s No. 1 contender for the next shot at the light heavyweight title.

Eddie Alvarez – Lightweight Division

Widely considered one of the best MMA athletes not competing in the UFC before signing in 2014, Eddie Alvarez will be looking to use the upcoming year to put his stamp on the organization’s lightweight division. A former Bellator lightweight champion and MMA veteran with a pro career dating back to 2003, Alvarez quickly established a reputation for putting on exciting fights thanks to his aggression, crisp striking, granite chin and willingness to stand and trade. The Philadelphia native rarely goes to decision, with 14 of his 25 career wins coming by way of KO, and another seven by way of submission. Alvarez also owns 13 first-round finishes. Despite dropping his first bout in the Octagon, look for Alvarez to establish himself as an elite force in the UFC’s 155lbs division over the course of 2015.

Holly Holm – Women’s Bantamweight Division

One of the newest stars set to rise in the UFC women’s bantamweight division, Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm enters the Octagon as an elite striker, coming off a dominant boxing career that saw her top the sport’s pound-for-pound list. A two-time Ring Magazine Female Fighter of the Year (2005, 2006), Holm began the transition to professional mixed martial arts in 2011, finally making it her full-time focus in 2013. Considered by many to own the best boxing in women’s MMA, Holm has put together a perfect 7-0 record to date, using her striking to get the job done and finishing six of her seven wins by knockout. Set to make her UFC debut against The Ultimate Fighter alum Raquel Pennington at UFC 184, a decisive win, combined with her impressive resume, could be enough earn her a coveted title shot early into her UFC career.

Rafael dos Anjos – Lightweight Division

Beginning his pro MMA career in 2004, jiu-jitsu standout Rafael dos Anjos has been a veteran of the UFC’s lightweight division since 2008. Boasting a skillset that’s continued to evolve and improve over the years, dos Anjos has been on a tear of late that’s seen him win eight of his last nine bouts. The Brazilian most recently took out Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz in convincing fashion to earn himself the next crack at Anthony Pettis and UFC lightweight strap. Known primarily for a strong ground game that he’s used to tapout eight different opponents, dos Anjos has also displayed much sharper standup in recent bouts, scoring the KO in two of his last three fights. He’ll look to take the belt when he meets Pettis at UFC 185’s main event in Dallas, Texas.
