Update 2 (January 28):
Tim Schafer tweeted, “Word from Sony is that the Grim PS4 unlocking problems are FIXED. If you do “renew licenses” under PSN settings, it should just work. True?”
Update:
Sony completely updated their Grim Fandango Remastered download error workaround, with new steps you can see below:
If You Pre-Downloaded
- On your console, delete all Grim Fandango data from your system.
- From a web browser, open the PlayStation Store and sign in.
- Mouse over your Online ID in the top right of the page and choose the [Download List] option. Once you’ve signed in, you can also get to your download list by clicking this link. Note: You must do this step via the [Download List] and not from the game page, or it will not work.
- Find Grim Fandango (PS4) in Download List and click the [Download to Your PS4] button. If your Primary PS4 is on or in Rest Mode, the game will automatically download.
If You Pre-Ordered, But Didn’t Pre-Download; Or Bought the Game After Launch
- From a web browser, open the PlayStation Store and sign in.
- Mouse over your Online ID in the top right of the page and choose the [Download List] option. Once you’ve signed in, you can also get to your download list by clicking this link. Note: You must do this step via the [Download List] and not from the game page, or it will not work.
- Find Grim Fandango (PS4) in Download List and click the [Download to Your PS4] button. If your Primary PS4 is on or in Rest Mode, the game will automatically download.
Original Story:
Going live last night in North America (Europe gets it tomorrow), those who pre-loaded the PlayStation 4 version of Grim Fandango Remastered noticed there were problems trying to access the game, causing Ask PlayStation to send out this workaround for all those affected:
Re-Download Steps for Pre-Orders
- Return to the PS4 store and purchase the free version of the game (this SKU will only be visible to pre-order users at around 9pm PST). Purchase the SKU only, do not re-download at this point.
- Restore PS4 licenses. [Settings] > [PSN] > [Restore License]. If this doesn’t solve the issue continue to step 3.
- Go to Library, highlight Grim Fandango and press Options.
- Delete Game Content.
- While still in the Library highlight Grim Fandango and press X to re-download the content.
- Restore licenses again.
If that doesn’t work, PlayStation’s Adam Boyes says to just download the game from your download list on the webstore to the PS4.
Have you been able to play Grim Fandango Remastered on either PS4 or PlayStation Vita? What do you think of it?
