You may have heard that Sega is laying off 300 employees , a move that usually signals dark times. I think it’s time Sony steps in and buys Sega. And hey, if that happens, maybe these (hypothetically) cool games can happen too.
What did I miss? Probably Nights and Vectorman ? Dammit, there’s just too many awesome possibilities!
Essential Reading:
Sony Buy Sega Please
Shenmue 3
Lan Di needs to get what's coming to him. I've been waiting well over a decade to give that bastard his due. Just give me the chance, Sony. Buy Sega, fund Yu Suzuki's vision, and give me that chance on PS4!
Skies of Arcadia 2
I thought I was okay with Skies of Arcadia just being its own thing, but then that Nostalgia game came out on DS and made me realize, no, there's room in my heart for more sailing of the skies. I'd fall so instantly in love with another game in this universe. That exploration, that world, now with PS4 power behind it? I already own this game three times. On PS4, I'd buy it twice more.
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Valkyria Chronicles was one of the PS3's best games, and the third game in the trilogy was one of the PSP's best . Sing along, "All we are saaaaying...is give PS4 a chaaaaance!"
Panzer Dragoon Saga Remake
Panzer Dragoon Saga is one of the most (if not the most) sought-after Sega Saturn games ever, selling for as much as $300 in online auctions. Get cracking on a 1080p version for the PS4.
Phantasy Star Online 2
This game is already available in English. Just bring the damn thing over. If Sony bought Sega, maybe that would be the final nudge toward, I don't know, doing shit?
Phantasy Star V
Phantasy Star has had a great, fun, long run in the online space (check out my rad retrospective video ), but before that, there were four offline RPGs, half of which were pretty good. Phantasy Star V has been desired by genre/series fans for something like two decades. Make it happen on PS4 and/or Vita. Given how stressful Phantasy Star could be (sucker was OLD school!), I kind of want Vita for its sleep mode, but the TV traditionalist in me says PS4. I'd take either one.
Yakuza Ishin translated
This isn't just my favorite Yakuza game, it's the best Samurai game I've ever played. It looks dazzling on the PS4. Slap some English subs on it and let the world in on this action, Sony. I mean Sega. And Sony.
New Shining Force
You've already got the tactical RPG demographic coming your way, since Disgaea 5 is a PS4 exclusive. Give them more of what they came for with a Shining Force game. This once-great tactical RPG series needs pros to revive it. Get your guys and Sega's guys talking, now!
Golden Axe
Before there was Dragon's Crown , there was Golden Axe . Once again, here's a game that already has an installed target demographic that owns your systems. Boom. It's begging to be made.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is already on PS3 and Vita, and it's a damn fun little kart racer. If Sony bought Sega, it'd have the power to add faces like Kratos, Parappa, and other PlayStation *ahem* all-stars and perhaps achieve what LittleBigPlanet Karting couldn't. Hey, we can dream, right?
Jet Set Radio
I can not explain to you how hard I want to bob my head to catchy beats while spray painting cell-shaded buildings on my PS4 or Vita. I'd take either.
Crazy Taxi Something or Other
It's clear at this point that Sony hates the Vita. I see a new Crazy Taxi as just the kind of garbage Sony would be willing to allow someone else to put on the system.
