Electronic Arts has confirmed that its Montreal studio has been hit by a “small number” of layoffs. The company said in a statement to Gamasutra:
We made a staffing change in our Montreal studio to align with our current development and service plans. A small number of employees were impacted, and we are working closely with each of them to ensure the best transition possible.
According to reports, it’s the mobile division that was most affected, but when speaking to Gamasutra, all EA revealed was that the changes “do not impact” the company’s current development plans. However, GamesIndustry.biz has reported that EA’s mobile studio, Rocket Squid, may have been shut down recently, which suggests that the changes could be related to mobile development only.
We wish the best of luck to those who have been affected.
