Uncharted 4 Dev Says Graphics are “Really Close to Film Right Now”

Frank Tzengi, the Lead Character Artist for Uncharted 4, recently gave his thoughts on the upcoming adventure game’s graphics, saying that they are close to movie CGI quality.

In an interview with CG Master Academy, Tzengi explained that he believes Uncharted 4‘s graphics are “really close to film right now,” and judging by all of the amazing screenshots we have seen, he might be right.

Game quality is really close to film right now, look at the stuff we do in Naughty Dog.

This character can easily be a digital double in a film. Based on the quality, the detail, the blend shape, the colour, everything that we put on the character this is basically a film character to me. So to me, videos games are getting really close to film quality, and this is exactly what I wanted to do.

Even though Naughty Dog still isn’t sure if Uncharted 4 will run at 60fps, working with the PlayStation 4 has enabled the team to use higher resolutions with their maps, which makes the game look more realistic, Tzengi said. He noted that “All of this is getting us one step closer to the film quality that we wanted for the game industry and I think in a few years we can definitely get there.”
