Back in September of 2014, Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata mentioned in an interview that the RPG was about 55% completed. However, it hasn’t really seemed to progress past that point since then.
In a recent interview with IGN, Tabata mentioned that FFXV is still only 60% finished. He explained that this is a conservative number, and some of the slow process has to do with the development of the FFXV demo, which will be launching next month. Now that that is out of the way, Tabata said, development will move much faster.
But because of the way development works, now we’ve seen a solid milestone, and using that it means the end is in sight in some ways. After that’s released and we continue on with development there may be times where we move on with massive leaps and bounds, so the overall number shoots up by 10 percent at a time. I think we’re looking at a much faster development in the near future.
Tabata also talked with IGN about the realistic feel of FFXV, which is evident from watching gameplay of it, and explained that he had wanted to make a realistic Final Fantasy game, one that feels like a “real living breathing world.”
It’s very true, we’re similarly trying to create a more realistic feel to the world and a more realistic Final Fantasy. The kind of Final Fantasy I want to make, it’s one where you feel this is a real living breathing world and these things could exist in real life. The character is the same too – it’s a real person with real motivations. Your friends and comrades are the same; even the monsters. They’re credible; they could exist and would live in this environment and behave this way. Just to get that feeling of credibility is something that I really want to do.
What do you think about Tabata’s comments? Do you like the idea of Final Fantasy XV being more realistic, and what do you make of the apparently slow development process?
