Speaking with VideoGamer at a Capcom produced interview, Senior Manager of Consumer Games Development Teruki Miyashita talked a bit about Deep Down, an upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive RPG.
Miyashita took a little bit of time to address the seemingly slow development of Deep Down. He mentioned that the development team keeps running the problems, causing the whole project to move slowly.
We’re still facing a ton of challenges. For starters, there’s the whole process of developing games for the newest next-generation consoles. Every solution we came up with seemed to create more problems than it solved, so it has really been one step forward, two steps back the whole way.
On top of all that, we had to tune up the servers for the online management aspects. We had a really hard time trying to develop a game that combined all the elements.
Miyashita also briefly discussed plans for the game, explaining how Capcom is expecting its lifespan to last around ten-years and how user input will be used to “reform and transform” parts of the game.
Major updates are released regularly under a planned schedule. We expect for each new update to already be under development by the time we launch a certain service. We’ve drafted a schedule that looks far ahead for several years.
We’re looking at a ten-year span for the online games. For the first three years, we’ll be diving in deeply to see what features are popular among the users. That is to say, if we prepared five plans at the start of the service and two of them gained positive responses from the users, we will further develop those two and reform and transform the other three plans that didn’t work out. Thus we can bring the service closer to what our users want and can enjoy for years to come. Even though we have already planned a schedule for a ten-year-period, we’re always open to modifications.
While Miyashita did not mention a launch date for Deep Down, hopefully more concrete details will be released soon. What do you think about the planned schedule and the development process?
