An undisclosed number of employees at Square Enix London have been placed on consultation, MCV UK reports. The company has said that it wants to improve its Western operations and as part of that, it’s expected to announce some redundancies. Square Enix said in a statement to MCV:
We’re proposing some changes in our London office as part of our ongoing ambition to best position Square Enix for future growth in the West. The proposed changes are subject to a period of consultation with some of our employees and that is our immediate focus. We’re not able to go into any further details at the moment.
Formerly known as Eidos Interactive, Square Enix Europe runs several studios including Square Enix London, Crystal Dynamics, IO Interactive and Eidos Montreal. Although the company launched some successful games including the Tomb Raider reboot, MCV reports that the need for PR, marketing and sales staff has reduced as the number of games in development across the industry decreases.
On the other hand, Square Enix has some unannounced PlayStation 4 titles in the pipeline, but we have no further details on those at the moment.
Our best wishes go out to all those who are affected.
