Fan Response to The Elder Scrolls Online Subscription Fee Removal Has Been “Outstandingly Positive”

Bethesda announced back in January that it would be dropping the monthly subscription fee for The Elder Scrolls Online. “Players will make a one-time purchase of the game and can then enjoy hundreds of hours of content without the requirement of a monthly game subscription fee,” the company said. In an interview with Examiner, Game Director Matt Firor said that player response to the change has been “outstandingly positive.”

The decision came about by us listening to our fan’s feedback – they really liked the fact that they had so much freedom in the game and they wanted that same freedom with their payment methods.

So, we changed our subscription-required payment model to subscription-optional, and we created a virtual currency/in-game store system that allows players to purchase customization and convenience items. Player reaction has been outstandingly positive since we announced the change, and especially since the changes went live on March 17.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will launch for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 9 in North America and Europe. Some lucky folks are already partaking in the beta as we speak.

If you wish to purchase the game, make sure you have ample space on your hard drive. The game’s client sits at 50GB, and a day one update will require an additional 15GB of space.
