The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s Senior Environment Artist, Jonas Mattsson, has said that the game will allow players to roam around in the open world without experiencing any loading times. In an interview with GameSpot, Mattsson said that the developers wanted to create a smooth and “fluid” experience.
One of the goals we had was to keep the experience as fluid as possible. When you play, you don’t want to have the loading screen because it takes you out of the game a bit. We wanted to make sure that it was as smooth as possible, one big experience. For us, that was really important. I think we achieved that because, as you said, just going in and out of a building, there’s no loading time. Nothing. It just creates this really nice experience.
However, if players choose to fast travel, they will experience some loading times depending on how far they’re traveling. “If you just fast travel a little bit, it’s a really short loading time,” Mattsson explained. Apart from this, players will only experience loading times when they start the game, load a game, or die.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases on May 19 in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In a separate interview, CD Projekt RED said that Wild Hunt will welcome new players with its story, but without spoiling anything for existing players. You can read more on that here.
