Silent Hills Cancellation Confirmed by Konami, Company Says They’ll Continue to Develop the Silent Hill Series

In an email sent to Game Informer, Konami confirmed that they aren’t moving forward with Silent Hills:

Also, in response to what Del Toro said during the Q&A, Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.

As their statement to Kotaku adds, “In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.”

Shortly after Guillermo del Toro said his partnership with Silent Hills wasn’t going to happen and “that breaks my greasy heart,” actor Norman Reedus linked to an article about the news and added, “Super bummed about this was really looking forward to it. Hopefully it’ll come back around. Sorry everyone.”

Today, Konami sent out a self-made Q&A regarding Silent Hills and the Silent Hill franchise, but failed to address whether or not Silent Hills is still in development.

Here’s the important info from the Q&A:

  • Konami’s contract with Norman Reedus has expired, meaning his image will be removed from the official website.
  • P.T. is being removed from the PlayStation Store “because the distribution period has expired.”
  • As they add, P.T. was purely created to be a playable teaser and was “a trial edition of Silent Hills intended to give players an idea of the game concept.”
  • In regards to Silent Hill, Konami says they will “continue to develop the Silent Hill series,” but didn’t mention anything specifically about Silent Hills.

According to a Polygon source close to the game’s development, Silent Hills is effectively cancelled.

As for Hideo Kojima, other sources tell Polygon that he’s looking to go elsewhere and isn’t tweeting out of concern of breaking his contract.
