DICE Comments on Lack of Space Battles in Star Wars Battlefront, It’s About the “Battlefront Experience”

Back in April, DICE revealed that Star Wars Battlefront won’t include space battles, which seems to have disappointed quite a few fans. Executive Producer Patrick Bach said at the time the studio wants to focus on planetary battles and to get those right. In the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, Bach said that DICE wants to keep players in the same environment, and that the studio is hoping players will understand its decision.

We want players to stay in the same [environment] – we don’t want players to fly off and do something over here. It’s about the Battlefront experience, so we want to keep you in-atmosphere and fighting with the infantry.

[As a studio] we have to start somewhere. You can’t do everything at once. We want to build something that’s great for what it is, and have a holistic view on what we’re trying to achieve, rather than tossing everything in there from the start.

Other than space battles, we’re told that Battlefront won’t feature classes or squads, and even iron sight aiming as the developer attempts to distance Battlefront from Battlefield

Star Wars Battlefront releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 17. Expect some gameplay to debut at E3 2015
