Just Cause 3 will allow players to fly using a wingsuit, zip around using a grappling hook, and drive across the map using various cars. Combine all of this mobility with the ability to blow up huge structures and desecrate the map, and, as Game Director Roland Lesterlin put it in an interview with GamesRadar, you’ve got “more of a sandbox than almost anything else out there.”
While I’m not sure that is entirely true, Lesterlin’s comments on cars during the interview seem promising. For example, Lesterlin explained how even though players will be able to move around quickly by using their grappling hook, cars are still going to be fun to play with and will have a fairly realistic feel to them.
The game is about creativity. The car is another tool for you to mess around with – you can put a bunch of C-4 on a car and jump it into a base. That could be the beginning of your epic base attack.
There’s full deformation; hinged parts so cars break and parts move. The feel of it has a full racing engine underneath. We do shocks, downforce and things that you’d find in a full racing game.
Design Principal Franceso Antolini, who was also interviewed by GamesRadar, explained that players can “use cars as weapons,” and players can even “spawn a motorbike on the wing of a plane and ride it off.” Cars even have modifications in Just Cause 3, the devs said.
While cars didn’t really play a huge role in Just Cause 2, it looks like they will be, at the very least, a fun way to get around or kill people in Just Cause 3, which releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime later in the year.
