Norman Reedus Promotes Petition Against Konami, Rumors of Silent Hills Purchase Surface (Update)

Update:

As expected, Rooster Teeth’s “anonymous source” was making stuff up. Although Microsoft declined to comment before, Phil Spencer has clarified that the rumor is baseless. Here’s his response to a user:

Sorry, this isn’t true. Not sure where the rumor started but I don’t want to mislead anyone.

Original story:

Silent Hills hasn’t left the news ever since reports of its cancellation surfaced, and understandably so. As Konami struggles to address the public following the game’s cancellation and the entire Kojima/Konami fiasco, actor Norman Reedus has posted a link to a petition on his official twitter account, which encourages fans to “use PlayStation Experience” to launch a protest against Konami over recent events. “These hills are no longer silent,” they say.

In the meanwhile, the rumor mill is currently in full force, alleging that Microsoft is in talks to purchase Silent Hills. No, not the franchise. Just Silent Hills. An “anonymous source” has reportedly told Rooster Teeth that Silent Hills is 80% complete, and Microsoft is trying to purchase it for “billions” by E3 this year so that it could announce the game as an Xbox One exclusive. The source also alleges that Konami removed P.T. from the PlayStation Store “as a show of good faith” to Microsoft.

When IGN contacted Microsoft for a comment, the company said that it doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation. However, Konami has yet to respond. Rooster Teeth’s source also said that Konami is trying to get out of the console business, which we’ve heard before. But bear in mind that the company did say very recently that it will continue to develop for consoles

I’ve got to say that I’m having a hard time believing that Microsoft would throw “billions” of Dollars on a single title. The $2.5 billion Mojang deal was a whole different ballgame, and Minecraft is huge! That said, time will tell if there’s any truth to this rumor or not.
