Final Fantasy VII Remake Development Led By Key Members of the Original Game, is a “Full Remake”

Announced last night as “coming first” to PlayStation 4, Square Enix detailed a bit more about the Final Fantasy VII Remake.

In the press release, they reiterated that production has begun on this “full remake” of Final Fantasy VII:

At Sony Computer Entertainment of America LLC’s (SCEA) E3 press conference today, Square Enix announced that it has begun production on the full remake of Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system.

As for development, it will be led by key members of the original game, including Producer Yoshinori Kitase, Director Tetsuya Nomura, and Scenario Writer Kazushige Nojima.

First released in 1997 on the PlayStation One, Final Fantasy VII has sold over 11 million copies worldwide.

Square Enix concludes, “More updates on this project will be revealed at a later time.”

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Computer Entertainment America President and CEO Shawn Layden said that the final name of the Final Fantasy VII Remake is “pending,” so it is subject to change.

With Square Enix’s E3 2015 press conference just a few hours away at 10am PT/1pm ET, we’ll let you know if they say anything about the Final Fantasy VII Remake or the Final Fantasy VII PS4 port.
