While we already know that players won’t be able to drive AT-ATs in Star Wars Battlefront, we now know why.
In an interview, DICE Senior Producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir explained that the reason AT-ATs are on-rails is due to them being part of the game mode; that and letting players control their path would be “game breaking.”
The path? No, you don’t. It’s a part of the mode itself, because the AT-AT is the objective of the mode. They have a set path because they’re headed to the shield generator.
If you were to control their path – that would be game breaking.
While AT-ATs can’t be driven in the traditional sense, players will be able to control its turrets and call in air strikes, which were shown off to great effect during its gameplay reveal at E3.
In another part of the interview, Ingvarsdottir confirmed that Ewoks will be making an apperance in Battlefront — though players won’t be able to play as one.
You can’t play as an Ewok… but you’ll be able to see them
