Star Wars Battlefront Won’t Have a Single-Player Campaign Due to DICE Having to “Focus” on Multiplayer, Watch Darth Vader Kick Ass

While Star Wars Battlefront not having a single-player campaign has been known for quite some time, game developer DICE cites that one of the main reasons why it chose this path is due to the studio needing to “focus” on just multiplayer.

In an interview with GameSpot at gamescom, Senior Producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir talked about the studio’s decision, and how it was the studio’s vision from the start.

As we concepted the game and thought about the legacy of the previous Battlefront games–they didn’t really have campaigns, they’ve always been predominately a multiplayer franchise. That’s what we wanted to do…We wanted to focus on the multiplayer.

From the start it had a pure multiplayer focus…It was a lot of the pedigree of the DICE studio, in terms of having delivered great multiplayer in the past, and for us we feel like this is more of a multiplayer franchise. So that’s been the focus.

Also of note, while you might have seen the Battlefront Flight Squadron game mode reveal earlier (way, way earlier) today. you might have missed the new Star Wars Battlefront Darth Vader footage that was snuggled in the old trailers as part of EA’s gamescom presser.

Are you bummed out that Battlefront won’t have traditional single-player (will instead have Missions)? And will it affect your decision whether to buy it or not?
