What is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3?
Set a full 40 years after the events of its predecessor, Black Ops 3 will whisk Activision's action series into a dark and dystopian future -- one in which the line between man and machine has become indistinguishable. What this means is a whole new breed of super-soliders, each boasting tremendous abilities that include Titanfall-like wallrunning, strafing and much more.
It's an approach that will look to take the hyper-kinectic gameplay of Advanced Warfare and crank it up to 11. Oh, and there's Zombies, too.

Old, Not Obsolete
Love it or loathe it, Call of Duty continues to be a household name despite waning sales. How exactly this pans out over the course of Sony's exclusivity deal remains to be seen, but there's a significant burden resting on Black Ops 3's broad, mechanized shoulders.

Did We Mention the Hand Cannon?!
Because why let Doom get all the credit for awesome weaponry?

On the Sony Side of Things
Don't expect Activision's switcheroo to have an immediate impact on Call of Duty fandom, as the DLC's move to PlayStation system likely won't trickle down until the months after release. Still, Sony's deal hinges on Call of Duty maintaining its once steadfast grip on relevancy, and recent sales figures don't exactly inspire confidence.

Ready, Aim, Fire
Innovation has been a common and fair complaint levelled at the long-running franchise, and while every iteration has to perform a balancing act of appeasing the hardcore and striving for new ideas, there is evidence that Black Ops 3 will herald a shake up to the formula.
Four player support for a co-op campaign, for instance, not to mention a multiplayer segment built around Specialist classes. And of course, more Zombies!
