Borderlands Movie in Development at Lionsgate, Will Have the Same “In-Your-Face Attitude” of the Games

Joining the likes of Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Assassin’s Creed, Borderlands will be getting a movie, 2K confirmed today.

According to Variety, the Borderlands movie is being developed at Lionsgate, with Avi and Ari Arad acting as producers.

Specific details about the movie weren’t revealed, though Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger did hint at what we should expect:

Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows. The Borderlands games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick talked about the partnership between Lionsgate, Gearbox, and Avi and Ari Arad:

This alliance is ideally positioned to create a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight Borderlands’ current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world.

Having already shipped 26 million copies worldwide, the Borderlands video game series will “almost certainly” continue.

What do you want to see from the Borderlands movie? Do you think it will be released in a timely fashion?
