Welcome to a weekend edition of Now Loading. If you’ve been keeping tabs on the tech world, you’ve no doubt, have heard or seen the Apple TV being shown on stage at the company’s big event earlier this week.
While famous iAnything maker Apple is known to push games on its App Store, that’s as far as the company went when it comes to gaming (unless you count the horrendous failure, Pippin, which was released way back in 1995). For some reason, though, before Apple’s big event, a bunch of tech sites reported that the Apple TV will be a direct assault on the console home front — yes, Apple was finally going to target the lucrative home console business. Headlines like “Why the new Apple TV will kill your Xbox or Playstation” made the rounds, even.
With this in mind, the PlayStation LifeStyle crew weighed in on not only what they think of the Apple TV as a gaming device, but the thought of Apple entering the console video game market to wage war against Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo as well.

Whenever there's a new Apple device that connects to your living room is set to be announced by Mac company, I always hear stuff like these, and I get it and not get it at the same time.
I get it that some people -- especially Apple fans -- want the company to enter the market, and maybe takeover the console space. One unified app store for your phone, tablet AND gaming console! What's not to like, right?
On the other hand, I'm also confused that people think Apple gives a shit about console and gaming. It's clear by now that Apple isn't really looking forward to anything more than selling games that will be playable on your tablet and phone. And frankly, why would it need to? Sure, the console market is a billion dollar space that it (Apple) has yet to conquer, but it's got its own goldmine and doesn't even need the risks that come with developing and releasing your own video game console.
Am I saying Apple will never enter the console sector? Nope, but I don't think it's anytime soon -- and honestly, I don't even want them to, nor do I even care that much.

I'm not against another fresh face in the industry, but I'm not sure that Apple would be the company put a dent in the market. They have consistently shown in the App store that they don't care much about gaming or it wouldn't be filled with complete garbage and clones. It isn't a priority for them, and it really shouldn't be.

My level of interest in anything Apple announces is almost zero so I couldn't care less what it does. I just don't think console gamers will take this seriously. At least I can't.

The console market has already proven it will push out others. Numerous other consoles have failed to catch hold in the living room gaming market, including most recently the one that was supposed to revolutionize the living room to be open sourced and Android based, the Ouya.
Let's face it. People already have their ties and investments into certain brands. The Apple TV may be a great option for someone who is completely immersed in the Apple ecosystem, but for everyone else, it does very little to compete with even other TV stream boxes, let alone consoles.

I don't see this as Apple's entrance into the console gaming space. Sure, there will be games for the Apple TV, but they'll be about as immersive as the Wii, and that gimmick has long since sailed! Gaming on the Apple TV will be good for casual entertainment for those times when you've got nothing better to do. -

When being used for gaming, I imagine the Apple TV will provide the same sort of experiences we can expect from the Android side of things. In fact, I think it will be exactly the same, and best suited for the more casual gamers out there. Current generation consoles are in a whole different league, no matter what Apple says.
