Konami Informally Address Allegations That It Will Leave Behind AAA Games

Only a few days ago, it was reported that Konami will stop creating AAA games, save for ones in the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise, and solely focus on mobile games. However, since that report, Konami has issued two informal responses that deny that it will stop creating AAA titles.

One such response was published on Twitter by Konami Europe Communications Manager Su-Yina Farmer, who pointed out that the report is only a rumor, and nothing more.

Konami also addressed the issue when a Reddit user opened up a support ticket for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain that asked if the company will no longer be developing MGS titles. The service representative responded by saying that the company has no plans of leaving any of its IPs behind.

I can promise you that we’re definitely not leaving Metal Gear behind or anything like that. I know some blogs were claiming that online this morning, but I’m not really sure where they’d be getting that from.

We’re still definitely working on console games and franchises such as Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, PES and all the rest.

Despite these informal responses, Konami still hasn’t issued an official statement on the issue, so it’s still possible that the developer is looking to exit the AAA field. What do you think of the company’s responses?
