“Variable Breakneck Speed” Coming to Rock Band 4 Alongside “Surprises” via Free Feature Update

Harmonix has revealed details of the first major Rock Band 4 feature update, which will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 8. We’re told that the update will add “exciting new social and competitive features” alongside some “surprises.” In addition to this, Harmonix will be adding “variable breakneck speed” to the game for the first time ever, thanks to community feedback. The feature “will let players control note scrolling speeds for each track independently” – something fans have been requesting for a long time, according to the developer.

As far as those surprises are concerned, Harmonix CEO Steve Janiak teased that one of them is a new mode that will change gameplay “in a really significant way” that he thinks fans will love.

With the core game already shipping to retailers for an October 6 launch, we’re excited to start looking at the future of Rock Band for our fans. We already have a team hard at work building new features for the platform, some based on player feedback, along with some surprises, including a new mode that changes gameplay in a really significant way that we think people are going to love.

Product Manager Daniel Sussman said that Harmonix views Rock Band 4 as a platform that it will “build on over time” and that the first feature update is “just the beginning.”

We’ll update our readers when more information becomes available.
