7.7GB Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Update Integrates Dedicated Server Support, Activision Says

Prior to the launch of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One yesterday, it was discovered that players would need to download a 7.7GB update. When people got their hands on the game, reports began to surface that the on-disc content was extremely limited and the update added missing features.

To clear up any confusion, Activision sent a statement to Game Informer, clarifying that the day one update was needed to fully integrate dedicated server support:

The core of the game is present on the disc and playable without downloading the patch. The patch does contain tweaks that are needed to fully integrate dedicated server support, which is needed if the player is connected to the Internet since the game is always online. The patch also gives the players additional content as well as improved stability and overall experience.

Announced yesterday, future Pro Skater 5 updates will add two more stages and five more skaters.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of THPS5 launch in November, though online is removed.

Expect our review of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 soon.
