Nathan Drake’s Final Adventure in Uncharted 4 Will Be the “End of an Era” for Naughty Dog

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Creative Director, Neil Druckmann, has said that Nathan Drake’s final adventure will be the “end of an era for Naughty Dog as a studio.” In an interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine, Druckmann revealed that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was meant to be the last game in the series before a change in plans took place. However, Uncharted 4 is “definitely ending” Nathan Drake’s tale and that alone makes Druckmann “a little bit sad.”

Until things are pinned down then it’s never definite. But once we put the pins in those things, it became very real. We’d been discussing it throughout production about how it’s going to be the last one, but when we said ‘Well, here’s exactly how it’s going to happen and we’re committing to this and here are the scripts for it’, then all of a sudden it’s like ‘Oh, this is the end for Nathan Drake!

We already know that Uncharted 4 was delayed partly because of its ambitious ending. Writer Josh Scherr has assured fans that they will be “satisfied with the way [Naughty Dog] wrap things up.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Druckmann talked a little bit about mishaps occurring on stage during demos. With reference to incidents like the one at E3 2015, he said:

Luckily I’m not on stage like Bruce [Straley, co-director] is. I’m in the audience. But yeah, your stomach drops and you’re freaking out, because you know you work so hard on this thing but the game is not done, so you know that there are still these bugs in there. You’re always so nervous because something can go wrong, and then when it does, first of all you think ‘Can we even play the rest of this?’ You don’t know what’s going to happen.

However, Druckmann revealed that an on-stage glitch can sometimes be a blessing in disguise as it shows that the demo was a “real thing.”

Everybody came up to us and was like ‘Dude, that was awesome – it just showed that it was a real thing. I always think that those demos are a video playing in the back and you guys are just pretending to play’.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is scheduled for release in March 18, 2016 for the PlayStation 4.
