Uncharted 4 Micro-Transactions Will Be Available at Launch, No Gameplay Items Are Gated

When Naughty Dog announced the March 18, 2016 release date for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, they revealed something called Naughty Dog Points, which are “a pack of in-game currency to unlock various multiplayer content.”

While Sony and Naughty Dog didn’t come out and officially say Uncharted 4 would include micro-transactions, Lead Multiplayer Designer Robert Cogburn confirmed their existence at a Paris Games Week event attended by GameSpot:

Micro-transactions will be available at launch, but we’ll have no gameplay items that will be gated through micro-transactions.

At the start of each match in Uncharted 4’s multiplayer, you’ll be able to choose weapons at different in-game currency prices. According to Cogburn, Naughty Dog will use the multiplayer beta from December 4 – 13 to determine how they scale grinding for items and incentivizing real-money acquisitions.

As for co-op, Cogburn said, “We’ll be talking about co-op later.”

Cogburn also mirrored previous comments that Uncharted 4 will “most likely be Naughty Dog’s last game in the series.”
