Since Sony re-introduced The Last Guardian for PlayStation 4 at E3 2015, complete with a 2016 release window, they’ve remained quiet about the big upcoming title, leaving it out of their Paris Games Week press conference entirely.
Asked for a status update by GameSpot in a recent interview, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said development is going well, “but because it’s about the story, we don’t want to show too much.”
He continued:
We wanted to show that it exists, it works, it runs. It’s not like we won’t show anything before launch, but I think we will try to limit what we show about the game.
What the team did at The Tokyo Game Show was create a gigantic interactive Trico [the giant creature] projected onto the wall at the Sony booth, and it followed people around. It was great, I wish we had it in Paris.
The next big PlayStation event is happening this December at PlayStation Experience. So far, The Last Guardian hasn’t been confirmed for the show.
Also in the interview, Yoshida clarified that they aren’t funding Shenmue 3, but rather helping out with financial support.
“It’s true that SCEA has a deal with Yu Suzuki-san’s company, to support in various ways, but it’s not like we are funding it,” he said. “We are helping with some financial support, but it’s their project, which they have crowd-funded, and have investors to help with.”
When do you think Sony will give us more info about The Last Guardian?
