Darksiders 2 Remaster Was Nordic Games’ Way to Have A “Better Starting Position” for Darksiders 3

Released at the end of October, the remaster of Darksiders 2 from Nordic Games for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC was done to help get people excited for the franchise again, according to Product Development Director Reinhard Pollice.

Here’s what he wrote on the Steam Forums:

Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition was just the start. Since we acquired the franchise we were looking for options for doing a DS3. The remaster was just a way to get some spotlight on the franchise again, reactivate the community and have a better starting position for [Darksiders 3].

Darksiders 3 has been talked about for some time, with Gunfire Games (made of ex-Vigil staff) hoping to work on it, and Nordic Games saying, “[Darksiders] is not dead,” after acquiring the IP.

Here’s what Joe Madureira, Creative Director of the first two games, said at the time:

The new owner, Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series. As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon.
