We don’t know much about the first title from Kojima Productions, other than it will be a console exclusive on PlayStation 4, and a PC release could potentially happen afterwards.
Speaking with IGN though, Hideo Kojima said, “I want to create something that’s what people expect, but at the same time will have something new that people haven’t seen before.” For this first project, he’s thinking smaller-scale, with not too many people, focusing on game creation in the beginning. He then confirmed “it will be a complete game.”
Meanwhile, former Metal Gear Solid Artist Yoji Shinkawa said he’s overseeing all of Kojima Productions’ art, which includes “characters, concepts for the backgrounds, concepts for the mechs,” suggesting there will be mechs in the first title.
Other news about the first project include the fact they haven’t decided on whether they’ll use a new or existing game engine yet, Kojima wants “to make games that go to a global market,” and, while games come first, Kojima says, “Once we have an established IP in games, something solid that satisfies people, then we can consider movies and videos.” He also wants to work with Guillermo del Toro in the future, which could be on a game, movie, or something else.
Kojima then asked fans to support him through this new start:
I’ve been in this industry for 30 years. I turned 52 this year. I’m getting to a new start, and I am very confident. I’ll keep creating games until the day I die. Rest assured I’m making more games, something more fun, something you haven’t seen, and it would be great if I could count on the fans to support me in this.
He’s interested in doing something with virtual reality in the future, but he’s “not sure if it’ll be current format – the big goggles – maybe it’ll change to AR or something.”
