Visceral Confirms Competitive Matchmaking Headed to Battlefield Hardline

January is fast becoming a hive of activity for EA and Visceral Games’ Battlefield Hardline.

With the release of the shooter’s Getaway expansion slated for later in the month, the studio revealed plans today to introduce competitive matchmaking into the base game, lending fans of all levels the opportunity to duke it out in “skill-based 5v5 matches.”

In detailing the new addition via its blog, EA noted that said matches will be incorporated into two to three week-long seasons, with Visceral handling a themed map for each mini-competition replete with a regularly updated leaderboard. Here, the publisher runs down how competitive matchmaking will be divided across two distinct leagues, and players should note that holders of Battlefield Hardline Premium will have access to maps found in the game’s Season Pass.

There are two leagues in Competitive Match, a Standard League (that all players will be able to compete in) and a Premium League. Battlefield Hardline Premium* members have access to the velvet rope Premium League, which features maps and modes from the base game as well as all maps in currently available Battlefield Hardline expansion packs. Can you be a winner in both leagues? Absolutely! Provided you have the skills, of course…
