The Witness’ Final Piece of Content Is Built, There Aren’t Any Plans for an Xbox One Version

Available digitally on January 26 for PlayStation 4, The Witness from Thekla had its last piece of content built today, prompting this tweet from Jonathan Blow:

Blow has been tweeting about the progress of The Witness over the last few days, saying on January 15, “WOW THIS GAME IS KIND OF ALMOST DONE.” A day later, he said, “Subtitling a game in 15 languages is kind of annoying actually!”

Earlier today, an Xbox One ESRB rating for The Witness was unveiled, prompting discussions that it would come to the platform after the PS4/PC exclusivity was up. As Blow cleared up though, there aren’t any plans for an XB1 version right now:

There are no plans right now for an XB1 version of The Witness. We just put that on the rating form so if we ever do XB1, we won’t have to get the game re-rated. (Provided the content is the same, which it would be).

If you’re curious, The Witness is rated E for Everyone and includes an alcohol reference:

This is a puzzle-adventure game in which players traverse an island full of puzzles. Players must complete puzzles to trigger switches, bypass obstacles, and unlock doors/gates. Some lines of dialogue reference alcohol (e.g., “The whole universe is in a glass of wine” and “Let it give us one more final pleasure: drink it and forget it all!”).

As for the lack of PlayStation Store pre-orders, Blow said, “On PSN you have to set up pre-orders months in advance and we didn’t know that.”
