Destiny Crimson Days Event Starts February 9, Iron Banner Returns January 26

In the first Weekly Update of 2016, Bungie revealed that the first ever Valentine’s Day event for Destiny is arriving next month, and it will be on a scale close to Festival of the Lost.

Beginning on February 9, and lasting for one week, the Crimson Days event adds the new Crimson Doubles 2v2 Crucible mode:

It features a special twist, born of new gameplay and mechanics that only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate. You’ll need a dancing partner – preferably one that compliments your fighting style. The two of you will have a chance to earn some “sweet” loot together in the Crucible. To receive your gifts, you’ll have to put your differences aside and fight well as a couple.

Expect Crimson Days to be accompanied by the Destiny February update, which will include “other improvements and fixes” yet to be detailed. More information on the upcoming event will arrive next week.

Before Crimson Days, the Iron Banner will return from January 26 at 10am PT/1pm ET to February 2 at 12am PT/3am ET, and the game is Rift. Bungie revealed some of the rewards:

Available From Lord Saladin

  • Rank 3 – Class Item, PlayStation Class Item (timed exclusive)
  • Rank 4 – Chest Piece, Scout Rifle
  • Rank 5 – Fusion Rifle

Available as Post-Game Drops

  • Rank 2 – Boots
  • Rank 3 – Chest Piece, PlayStation Helmet (timed exclusive), Scout Rifle
  • Rank 4 – Fusion Rifle

Also in the Weekly Update, Design Lead Lars Bakken revealed that they “launched The Taken King with an overhaul to the skill system that would let us gather information about how we can best prioritize a match,” which was done in response to unbalanced matchmaking. Work on this first began in October with the Control playlist, and extended to all playlists in December.

Teasing that “there are more stories about 2016 that remain to be told,” Bungie said they’ll soon have more news regarding a second, larger Destiny update arriving after February.
