Detailing some of their plans for Call of Duty in 2016, Activision revealed that they’ll be showcasing gameplay from Infinity Ward’s “ambitious new game” at E3 2016 in June. However, the publisher won’t have a booth on the show floor:
In June, we’re going to be at E3 showcasing gameplay from Infinity Ward’s ambitious new game. We’re looking forward to sharing exciting new details about the next great Call of Duty game in partnership with our friends at PlayStation. We’re proud to be participating in this premier video game event, but won’t have an Activision booth on the show floor.
Activision typically announces the year’s new Call of Duty at the end of April/early May.
“We have an exciting year ahead and have some great stuff planned that we can’t wait to share with you,” Activision teased. “Don’t be surprised to find us in some other unexpected places as well.”
If you want to watch the Call of Duty World League, the new Live Event Viewer on PlayStation 4 will broadcast key matches from North America, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand:
Fans interested in viewing these matches directly from the Black Ops III in-game menu on PlayStation 4 can simply launch the game and head to the Featured box in the top left of the screen of the Main Menu. From there, it is a one-button press to jump right into the action where players can watch Call of Duty World league competitive matches, bringing esports directly to the game. In addition to regular eSports broadcasts, the Live Event Viewer will be used for community focused programming such as Game with Devs and Treyarch livestreams.
Regular CWL matches take place on Tuesday and Wednesday of every week. Teams will be playing for their part of the $600,000 Stage 1 prize pool. This year, the CWL will be awarding more than $3 million dollars worldwide, including the CWL Pro Division and the Call of Duty Championship. Below are times for each weekly broadcast and the finals dates per region. After weeks of tough competition, each region is nearing their finals, and the last few matches are going to be vital in determining who will be part of the regional finals.
The weekly broadcasts take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3pm PT in North America, 4pm CET in Europe, and 6pm AEDT in Australia/New Zealand.
Looking at Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, it set a franchise record in January 2016 for having the highest amount of players ever in a January. This continues the record-high number of players it saw in November and December.
