Telltale Games on Their Batman Series: “It’s Not Like Any Other Batman Game out There”

Set to debut later in 2016, the Batman episodic game series from Telltale Games will be unlike any other Batman game on the market. This is according to Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner, who told Kotaku:

Our Batman series is looking fantastic. I think it might become one of the best things we’ve ever done. I can’t go into much detail, but the Batman team is amazing and they are really on top of it. It’s not like any other Batman game out there. This game really explores all aspects of Batman, not just the the ‘fighting in the suit’ side of him. There’s a lot of subplots to explore and some really amazing choices that have a big impact on the story being told. I really think it might be the peak of the mountain for us so far.

Elsewhere in the interview, Bruner explained that they will always be committed to the episodic format because “we think it’s a special way to tell stories and offers something different from binge consumption.” After mentioning how there were some “really long gaps” between episodes last year, he says they’re getting better at delivering new episodes in consistent intervals.

Sitting at nearly 350 staff members, Telltale Games is built to handle up to four series at the same time, “with a little extra for special projects.” Currently, they’re working on finishing up Minecraft: Story Mode and The Walking Dead: Michonne, with Game of Thrones Season 2, The Walking Dead Season 3, Batman, and a Marvel project also in the works.

As for what else Telltale could work on, Bruner admits there’s a “big list” they keep locked away from the world. While he wouldn’t talk about names on that list, he did say, “Personally, I’m on record saying how much I’d love to make a Telltale Star Wars game. I’ve made Star Wars action games in the 90’s when I worked at LucasArts, but a Telltale Star Wars game would be a dream come true. And Bond. James Bond would be freaking awesome. And Fletch. And Chinatown. Oh, and The Shining.”

What do you expect from Telltale’s Batman series?
