Shuhei Yoshida Says PS4 & Xbox One Cross-Play Is “Much More Complicated” Than PS4 & PC

When Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida was asked by Eurogamer at GDC about whether or not Sony would allow PlayStation 4 and Xbox One cross-play, he mirrored their previous statement.

“I understand their policies changed, right? They’re saying they’re going to do cross-platform play between Xbox One and PC with some games,” he said, before adding that PlayStation cross-play with PC has been around for some time now.

Asked specifically about PS4 and Xbox One cross-play, he suggested getting the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live to work together could be quite complicated:

Because PC is an open platform it’s much more straightforward. Connecting two different closed networks is much more complicated so we have to work with developers and publishers to understand what it is they are trying to accomplish.

We also have to look at the technical aspect – and the technical aspect could be the easiest. We also have to look at policy issues and business issues as well.

One of the developers Sony will talk with first is Psyonix, who have already committed Rocket League to Microsoft’s Cross-Network Play.

Do you think Sony should allow cross-play with Xbox One?
