On the heels of yesterday’s console update, Warner Bros. Interactive has nailed down plans for a new Mortal Kombat X competitive eSports series.
Taking place across the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League Season 3 and the ESL Challenger Cup, WB notes that the tournament will get underway in April, boasting a total prize pool of $500,000.
Series stalwart Ed Boon released the following statement today, welcoming the increased focus on eSports.
“Mortal Kombat has always been about friends going head-to-head in ‘couch competition.’ With Mortal Kombat X, these players now have multiple ways of jumping into the tournament scene to prove their skills and win cash. This is the biggest commitment we’ve made to the esports scene and with our newly enhanced online experience, we’re looking forward to seeing the intense match-ups at the various tournaments we’re supporting.”
Elsewhere, the Blue Steel Sub-Zero character skin can be picked up via PlayStation Store and the Xbox Marketplace, where a portion of proceedings will go toward that aforementioned prize pool for the Mortal Kombat X competitive scene.
