Hellblade Dev Diary Touts Ninja Theory’s Reworked Combat System

Continuing to peel the layers back on its mythic action game, Ninja Theory has premiered the latest development diary for Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, this time drawing attention to the core combat system.

Clocking in as the 22nd behind-the-scenes featurette for the new IP, the studio’s creative team reveals how the “immediate and grounded” combat featured in Hellblade differs from past Ninja Theory games, including DmC: Devil May Cry and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

In fine-tuning the new system, the developer also sought the help of Chloé Bruce, who acted as stunt double to Daisy Ridley during production on Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Melina Juergens, meanwhile, provides the motion capture performance for Senua, the Celtic warrior at the heart of Hellblade “who journeys into Viking heartland while struggling with trauma and psychosis.”

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will whisk players off into the Viking heartland at some point later this year.
