Tekken X Street Fighter Not in Active Development

Still waiting for Tekken x Street Fighter? Well, you have a lot more waiting to do if you’re hoping to play it anytime soon, as Bandai Namco has confirmed the fighting game is no longer in active development.

In an interview, Tekken Game Director Katsuhiro Harada mentioned that releasing Tekken x Street Fighter could potentially split the fighting game community.

When we develop fighting games, we try to keep the core community in mind as well as the wider audience that wants to play these games…But currently the situation is with fighting games, you have Street Fighter V that just released–a lot of people are playing that fervently–and there’s a large crowd out there waiting or Tekken 7.

We don’t want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken x Street Fighter is something that’s become difficult recently. So it’s on hold for the moment.

Originally announced way back in 2010, Tekken x Street Fighter is a product of Capcom and Bandai Namco’s partnership, where each company can use the pool of fighters from the other to create a fighting game. For reference, Capcom’s Street Fighter x Tekken was released back in 2012.

Are you still looking forward to Tekken x Street Fighter? Or have you given up at this point?
